Where the exuberance of the tropics meets the discipline of form.

Modern tropical floral design. We compose luxury vases, wedding florals and event installations from flowers grown in Nigerian soil, gathered with care and cultivated to honour the earth that bears them. Sculptural botanicals and wild grasses, arranged as living art.

Flowers that belong to this climate.

Imported stems arrive tired and give up in Lagos heat within days. We work the other way round: heliconia, ginger, celosia and wild grasses grown here, cut when they are ready and arranged within hours. They look like the place they were made for, and they last.

Vase of the day.

Every morning the studio makes a fresh set of vases from whatever came in from the farm. No two days are the same. Come by Victoria Island, or send a message and we will hold one for you.

  • 100% locally made. Nigerian-grown flowers, grasses and botanicals, arranged the same day.
  • Bring your own vase. Have a vase you love? Bring it and we will design to it.
  • Fresh designs every day. New flowers, new design, ready for pickup from the studio.

Ilona, founder and lead designer.

A studio built around what grows here.

Bird of Paradise Lagos is led by Ilona, a floral designer with many years of experience in luxury tropical arrangement. The studio began with a simple frustration: the most beautiful flowers in the world were growing in Nigeria, yet Lagos events were decorated with imports that had spent a week in a cold chain.

  • Grown in Nigerian soil. Our stems come from our own plot in Ogun State and from growers we work with directly, so we know how each flower was raised.
  • Gathered with care. We pay growers properly and on time, use no air-freighted stems, and compost what we cut.
  • Arranged as living art. Every brief begins with a site visit or photographs of the space. Sculptural botanicals and wild grasses, composed for their setting rather than lifted from a catalogue.
